Holi is a beloved celebration marked by millions of people around the world and known for its bursts of colour, joyful gatherings and message of togetherness. In India, Holi marks the beginning of spring - a symbolic fresh start filled with hope and positivity.

Here in Queensland, the festival arrives in autumn, yet its meaning remains universal: a moment to connect, celebrate culture and welcome joy into our homes and communities.

Around the same time, many Sikh communities observe Hola Mohalla – a three-day festival that this year, starts on the same day as Holi.   Established by Guru Gobind Singh, Hola Mohalla celebrates courage, discipline, community spirit and service.

The festival is known for its spirited martial arts displays, colourful processions, poetry and communal meals (langar), bringing people together in a meaningful expression of strength and unity.

For many families, Holi and Hola Mohalla form a vibrant and interconnected festive period.

If you’re celebrating at home this year, a few simple touches can help create a festive, welcoming space:

  • Choose a bright colour palette: Decorate with vibrant textiles, flowers or table settings to reflect the joyful spirit of Holi.
  • Create a festive entryway: A colourful wreath, welcome sign or floral arrangement can set a cheerful tone as guests arrive.
  • Add colour-themed snack or drink stations: Bowls filled with fruit, sweets or colourful beverages can double as décor.

To continue the creativity at home, we’ve put together a Holi colouring sheet. Pick yours up at your local display centre or from our head office design studio.

We look forward to celebrating Holi with our community. Click here to watch our Holi celebration video.

Wishing everyone a bright, joyful and colourful Holi from the Plantation Homes team.
