The National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 introduced the biggest shift in Australian home building standards in more than two decades - and the changes are now fully in effect across Queensland.

A future-ready approach to home building
The NCC 2022 changes were introduced in stages to give builders time to adapt. In Queensland, livable housing standards took effect in October 2023, ensuring new homes are easier to access, navigate and adapt over time. This was followed by the new 7-star energy efficiency requirements in May 2024, which raise the bar for sustainability and comfort.
By 2025, all new homes in Queensland must also meet updated plumbing and material standards - part of a long-term commitment to healthier, more sustainable living environments.
