Kitchen styles and trends continue to evolve with a suite of colours, textures, styles, layouts and storage options. Plantation Design Studio Manager, Di Gaffney, shares her insights in the world of kitchen style and must-haves in 2021.
Getting back to nature
According to Di, natural tones, textured timber looks, laminates, along with matte pastel colours and engineered stones, are all making a statement in today’s kitchens.
“The Hampton style continues to attract a lot of interest as it is classic, timeless and elegant. Hamptons can be adapted to create a coastal or lux interior aesthetic which is immensely popular amongst Queensland families,” Di says.
“Detailed shaker cabinetry profiles which are featured in soft greys are also a number one ticket item.
Patterns introduced through the natural grains in the Caesarstone® benchtops and herringbone Carrara mosaic splash back continue to be popular, while neutral cabinetry in solid colours contrast beautifully against warm earthy timbers tones and textured overhead cabinets.”
Tapping into tapware and splash backs
“Gold, copper and black tapware are certainly making 2021 headlines this year. Scandi, Modern Country in an array of colours and polishes are all being used. It is all about personal taste and the look and scheme you are keen in delivering in your kitchen.
“Splash backs are fast-becoming one of the stars in kitchen design. “Hot on trend in 2021 is a glass insert overlooking your herb or wall garden. Tile splash backs are also making a comeback in bright and bold mosaics. For a more classic look, use the same stone you have on your benchtop and have it as your splash back as well.”
Perfection with your pendants
“Pendant lights are a beautiful accent to your kitchen and assist with soft ambiance of the space, where you can alternate between task and ambient lighting.
“One of the important things to remember with pendants is to keep the lighting proportional to the island bench. If you have a grand island bench, you can play with scale and proportion in the feature lights such as having three pendants or one large feature light.
“Alternatively, you can make the most of a smaller island bench design with two pendants offset and clustered at various heights to achieve more of a statement,” Di adds.
Other must-haves
The integrated dishwasher and fridge are extremely popular in 2021, adding a flush, opulent and seamless look to your kitchen.
“Butler’s Pantries are also fast-becoming a small, yet highly functional kitchen, on its own, with it all being plumbed in with a sink, dishwater and microwave. It is also perfect for all the prep work, including the mess!” Di added.
